GlaxoSmithKline bought a small drug company called Sirtis which had two drugs in clinical trials, both designed to remove the harmful health affects of aging. The new drugs are called sirtuin activators, meaning that they activate an enzyme called sirtuin. This enzyme is believed to be involved in the human famine response. It is normally triggered by a severe caloric restriction, as much as 30%. There are people today who have been living with reduced calorie diets in hopes of extending their lives. But most people would find it difficult to live under such a strict diet, and hopes are that these druges, resveratrol (SRT501) and a synthetic chemical a thousand times more potent than resveratrol, will cause the same benefits as a calorie restricted diet.

The clinical trials should be completed by this time and ready for FDA approval.
