Japan Seeks to Censor InternetStaff The Japanese government, which controls its major media outlets, is now seeking to gain control of news on the Internet which it believes harms the government by offering dissenting opinion. "The Internet threatens the government, but the new law will put the government back in control by making the ISPs directly answerable to the government," Hizumi said. "This is the untenable position we are facing in Japan."
A bill was proposed in 2008 and now the Japanese government hopes that parliament will pass it this year.
